25.11.21: WORKING WITH FAMILY ARCHIVES
A discursive workshop exploring how multifaceted objects and visual documents, which are enmeshed in Europe’s colonial interventions in North Africa and its postcolonial resonances are held in family archives. Artists and researchers from North Africa and its globally dispersed diaspora as well as from the formerly colonizing countries return to these objects to access not only a part of family history, but also to take a glance at historically determined asymmetric relations between the Global North and the Global South. Also invited is the Moroccan artist Imane Zoubai to discuss together with the webinar participants how to read, understand and mediate family archives. Find out more here .
30.11.21: FILM SCREENING AND Q&A
As part of a residency with A.MAL, residents Elodie Sacher and Younes El Hossaini (collectively know as 560 Zoom), and Leila Gamaz explore extinction of species in North Africa - algae being one of - as a legacy of colonialism and capitalism. Through a series of short films inspired by North African oral storytelling traditions, they explore how the interconnectivity of colonialism, climate injustice and environmental issues relates to algae in the present-day. A Q&A with the creators follows the screenings. Find out more here .
